Rezolution Pictures Lights Up Hot Docs - Smoke Traders World Premiere
MONTREAL, April 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Where there's smokes, there's fire. SMOKE TRADERS, a documentary about the Mohawk Nation's controversial involvement in the tobacco trade told from the native perspective screens at Hot Docs.
Filmmakers Jeff Dorn and Catherine Bainbridge spent three years in the Mohawk communities learning about the Native tobacco trade and the charismatic people involved in this lucrative and dangerous business.
This controversial trade that the Canadian government wants shut down has allowed Mohawks to raise themselves and their community out of poverty, but is it legitimate entrepreneurship and an exercising of traditional rights or a criminal activity that deserves jail time?
Filmmakers and Rainbow Tobacco CEO Robbie Dickson are available for interviews.
