Forum on Community Media vs. Corporate Media

10 Years since the infamous coup against the people of Venezuela 

TORONTO, April 12, 2012 /CNW/ - We are happy to invite you to a Forum on Community Media vs. Corporate Media and the lessons that have emerged from Venezuela and its community media, which played a fundamental role in the resistance against the 2002 coup d'état in Venezuela. We will hear from Carlos Hurtado, president of the Community Television Station 'Lara TVE' and a representative of the 'National Association of Alternative and Community Media' in Venezuela. The forum is free of charge and will commence at 10 a.m. at the Innis Town Hall, 2 Sussex Ave, Toronto, on Saturday April 14, 2012. Simultaneous translation and free food will also be provided. 

Before the Bolivarian Revolution there were 36 television concessions granted to private outlets, today there are 65 private outlets, at the same time 37 community television outlets have emerged and the state outlets have increased from 8 to 13. This clearly demonstrates a state of complete freedom of expression and the deepening of democracy, a dignified example for the world.

With great feelings of joy, we greet the Venezuelan people on the 10th anniversary of the recovery of their dignity over the oligarchy and the corrupt unpatriotic media. It has been 10 years of dignity,  10 years of resistance and permanent mobilization in favour of the building of popular power and Latin American integration.
