From the desk of THE HERB - LARGEST MARIJUANA MARCH IN WORLD KEEPS GROWING
TORONTO, April 19, 2012 /CNW/ - The 14th Global Marijuana March (GMM) is set for Saturday, May 5th in well over 100 cities across the globe and once again the spotlight is on Toronto! The world's largest marijuana march will attract upwards of 20,000 marijuana supporters and enthusiasts to downtown Toronto and is powered by Cannabis.ca. Launching at HIGH NOON, this year's instalment will feature a new extended route down Yonge Street. Please note the longest marijuana march down the longest street in world has been moved up from the previously advertised 2PM launch time. The peaceful protest parade will assemble at 11am and launch at 12pm at a new location north of Queen's Park North at CHARLES STREET and will travel NORTH to BLOOR STREET, EAST to YONGE STREET, SOUTH on YONGE, to GERRARD STREET and EAST on GERRARD to CHURCH STREET. After the march, the crowd will disperse to several marijuana-friendly events across the city.
Without any financial support from the recently moved Toronto Freedom Festival and very late planning from City officials, there currently will be NO familiar festival infrastructures or parade related elements, such as city sanctioned exhibitors, food vendors, entertainment stages, or washrooms inside Queen's Park North. This decision by the Parks, Forestry and City officials has both the Toronto community and GMM organizer 'The Herb' scratching their heads, especially since the GMM is Toronto's largest spring outdoor gathering generating millions of dollars to the local economy.
'The Herb' (@theherbleaf) states, "it remains our shared objective with the City to have a safe, clean and peaceful GMM parade. This will be an evolutionary year for GMM and we plan on remaining the largest marijuana march in the world with your attendance breaking 20,000 again!"
