Media Advisory - Families affected by mental health issues feel they have to live in isolation and cope alone
Simply Divas, the leading fundraiser for Families Associated with Mental Health Everywhere Returns
TORONTO, April 27, 2012 /CNW/ - 300,000 Canadians are likely to have a serious and persistent mental illness at any given time[i]. Mental health affects day-to-day living and has the ability to influence how we feel, perceive, think, communicate and understand1. Without good mental health, people can be limited in their ability to realize their full potential or actively participate in everyday living1.
The Family Association for Mental Health Everywhere (FAME) proudly announces that Simply Divas, its annual showcase of outstanding musical entertainment and culinary delights, returns for a 7th successful year - featuring a tribute to the legendary diva herself, Tina Turner!
Facing mental health and addiction issues in the family is a huge challenge for all family members, and for many families, it creates a substantial burden. It is made even more difficult through lack of information, isolation, fear, stigma or lack of support programs developed specifically for family and caregivers of the patient.1
This is the leading fundraiser for FAME, a community-based charitable organization which for over 20 years has proudly supported families and caregivers of those experiencing mental illness.
There will be a number of photo opportunities available.
