Public consultations on the environmental assessment for the new bridge for the St. Lawrence Français
MONTREAL, April 2, 2013 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is moving forward with plans to build a new bridge for the St. Lawrence and invites interested persons to attend open houses on the environmental assessment. The open houses will be held in the Montreal region from April 14 to 22, 2013.
They are an opportunity for people to receive more information, meet experts and comment on the effects of the project on the environment, as well as the proposed mitigation measures that are the subject of the second part of the environmental assessment report. This report is available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency's website at http://www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca/050/documents-eng.cfm?evaluation=65574&type=5.
The Government of Canada will also accept written comments until May 19, 2013.

BACKGROUNDER
Open houses on the environmental assessment of the new bridge for the St. Lawrence
The environmental assessment for this project began on January 22, 2012. It examines the project's impacts on the environment and proposes ways to mitigate them. It will also influence the bridge design and construction techniques and will help guide decisions that respect the environment.
An initial series of open houses on the description of the project and the environment was held in December 2012. The second series of open houses on the effects of the project on the environment and the proposed mitigation measures will take place in April 2013 at the following locations:

We welcome your written comments on topics covered in the second part of the report and during the open houses until May 19, 2013. We will take these comments into consideration during the next steps of the environmental assessment.
