19th annual 'Ernestine Affair' to be held on April 25
Gala event to raise funds and awareness to support women and children escaping violence
ETOBICOKE, ON, April 23, 2013 /CNW/ - Ernestine's Women's Shelter, which provides emergency shelter and support to hundreds of women and children each year, is hosting its 19th annual 'Ernestine Affair' on April 25, 2013. The annual event, which is nearly sold out, raises much-needed funds to help the shelter deliver its front line services.
The event will be co-hosted by Sheila McCarthy and Debra McGrath, stars of the hit TV show Little Mosque on the Prairie. Awards will also be presented to inspirational individuals who have overcome abuse, including the Natalie Novak Youth Achievement Award, named for a 20-year-old Ryerson University student who was murdered by her boyfriend in 2006. The Ernestine van Marle Inspiration Award is presented to a former resident who has been an inspiration to others through her display of strength, courage, and determination to honour the shelter's namesake, long time Etobicoke activist and community builder, Ernestine van Marle.
Attendees will also have numerous chances to bid on a long list of desirable items at a silent auction and a live auction. Purchase your tickets or donate today and help us stand up to violence and create a safe place for women and children.
