Media Advisory: Coalition to Host Rally at Legislature to Stop PST Hike

WINNIPEG, April 26, 2013 /CNW/ - A coalition of Manitoba organizations have joined forces to host a rally at the Legislature to stop the planned PST hike. All Manitobans are urged to attend.

"Eighty-six per cent of our small business members are opposed to a PST hike. Governments interpret silence as consent. We must speak out to oppose the PST hike," said Janine Carmichael, Manitoba Director with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

"People need to show up and send a strong message to the premier that promising not to raise taxes during an election and then raising taxes once elected is not acceptable," said CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig. "Bring your friends, family, neighbours and co-workers. Now is your chance to do something about unaccountable politicians."

"Along with other challenges, the PST hike will hurt restaurant owners, employees and customers, and stifle job creation in Manitoba.  This issue affects all Manitobans, and we welcome other individuals or groups to contact us to get involved," said Dwayne Marling, Vice President, Manitoba and Saskatchewan with the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association.
