MICHAEL BUBLÉ DONATES CONCERT PROCEEDS TO BC CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
VANCOUVER, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - Warner Bros. recording artist Michael Bublé announced during his August 20 concert in his hometown that all profits from the show would go to BC Children's Hospital Foundation's Campaign for BC Children, a $200-million initiative to support the construction of a new BC Children's Hospital and to enhance medical services for children throughout the province.
"They are really inspirational people, and the doctors and nurses who care for them are amazing," said Bublé. "But, when you're in the hospital, you can really understand the need for a new building."
A supporter of BC Children's Hospital for many years, Bublé has made frequent quiet visits to meet with young patients and their families. In 2008 he took on the role of Ambassador to the Campaign for BC Children and performed for over 800 people at the Bublé Gala, which raised over $2.2 million for the campaign. In addition, he has participated in public service announcements for the hospital and has lent his songs Home and Everything to the campaign.
The Vancouver show wrapped up his sold-out 12-date Canadian concert tour in support of the triple platinum album, Crazy Love. Over the course of three weeks Bublé has played in front of more than 150,000 Canadian fans garnering rave reviews from critics and fans alike.
"Michael Bublé has been more than willing to do what he can to both help us raise money for a new hospital, and to help children and their families feel better while they are at BC Children's," said Don Lindsay, president and CEO of Teck Resources Limited and chair of the Campaign for BC Children. "It's pretty clear to us that this comes from his heart. He cares deeply about BC's children."
The Campaign for BC Children is calling on British Columbians to "Be a Superhero" for BC's children by making a donation to the campaign. Donations can be made online at www.beasuperhero.ca. More information on the campaign and its priorities is available at www.beasuperhero.ca.
About the Campaign for BC Children
Priorities of the Campaign for BC Children include construction of a new hospital - including an Emergency Department, Diagnostics and Imaging area, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, operating suites and patient rooms; the relocation of childhood development and rehabilitation services from Sunny Hill Health Centre in East Vancouver to the Oak Street home of BC Children's, and Child Health BC, a BC Children's Hospital initiative that is building pediatric care capacity throughout the province.
BC Children's Hospital Foundation launched the Campaign for BC Children in April 2008. At that time Premier Gordon Campbell announced provincial government support for the plan to rebuild the hospital and relocate Sunny Hill. To date, BC Children's Hospital Foundation has received campaign donations from thousands of British Columbians in 223 BC communities. The community has contributed in excess of $100 million to date toward the $200-million campaign.
