WATERLOO, ON, Aug. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is pleased to announce the schedule for BrainSTEM: Your Future Is Now Festival.
From Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, this one-of-a-kind scientific celebration will connect the public with the latest and most intriguing technological innovations through a series of hands-on exhibits, lectures, events, and tours.
As a vital part of Perimeter Institute's mandate to share the power and wonders of science, the BrainSTEM festival will provide students and the general public with opportunities to chat with interactive robots, test wireless electricity prototypes, try on a mind control helmet, explore cutting-edge quantum technologies, and much more.
The Perimeter Institute is also pleased to announce a series of fascinating public lectures delivered by three renowned experts at the forefront of science and education:
- Lucy Hawking, daughter of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and author of the series of George Books
- James Grime, British mathematician and renowned expert on WWII codebreaker Alan Turing and the Enigma Machine
- Raymond Laflamme, founding member of the Perimeter Institute and Executive Director of the University of Waterloo's Institute for Quantum Computing.
Lectures will be held in the Mike Lazaridis Theatre of Ideas at Perimeter Institute and live streamed online. Perimeter Institute will also present Science in the Club with Matt Parker, who will perform his unique blend of math and comedy that takes audiences on a hilarious journey through the world of numbers.
Furthermore, Perimeter is offering special weekday programming for secondary school students through class visits. These sessions will showcase cutting-edge technologies to connect the dots between discovery, innovation, and imagination, further linking these to entrepreneurialism and the skills required to excel in future careers.
"At the heart of the BrainSTEM festival lies an opportunity to encourage young people to explore science and innovation through a range of demonstrations and exhibits," said Greg Dick, Perimeter's Director of Educational Outreach.
