VANCOUVER, Dec. 7 /CNW/ - ICBA President Philip Hochstein said his organization today launched the StopRecall.ca website and radio plans to help inform people about who is behind efforts to recall Oak Bay Gordon Head MLA Ida Chong.
"This recall campaign doesn't make any sense," said Hochstein. "Both of B.C.'s political parties are getting new leaders. Everyone is talking about new policy directions. Change is on its way without recall."
Hochstein said other forces are driving the recall campaign. Leaked NDP memos have shown the party and B.C.'s biggest unions are planning to use recall to refight the last election.
"We want people to be aware of the involvement of NDP and Labour, and the consequences for their personal information," Hochstein said. "People who don't want their name to end up on a door knocking list for the next election only have one way to guarantee that doesn't happen - by refusing to sign the recall petition." Hochstein said with all the political change possible due to the leadership contests in the NDP and the BC Liberals, as well as the HST referendum, the recall campaigns are an expensive and pointless exercise.
"Change is already coming and people are going to have their say in the referendum," Hochstein added. "Recall is at best mischief making and at its worst an attempt to refight the last election and get ready to fight the next one."
