Nova Scotia boy gets his most heartfelt wish: To witness Team Canada play for
Olympic gold on home ice

PICKERING, ON, Feb. 27 /CNW/ - Graham Young, a 17-year old from Tantallon, Nova Scotia, will live his dream to watch Canada in the Men's Hockey Gold Medal Game this Sunday at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. In order to make this wish a reality, Children's Wish engaged the help of long-time corporate supporter, Emera, who, in turn, approached BCLC and the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.

Graham was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis just before his third birthday in 1996. The chronic lung disease has made it more difficult for him to play Canada's sport, but he has nevertheless progressed to the high school level of play.

Six years ago, Graham's parents were told that he was eligible to receive his most heartfelt wish from Children's Wish. There was little doubt in Graham's mind what he wished for. In his words: "to watch the best hockey players in the world play with the weight of their nation on their back to try and capture gold." It is even more special to witness sports history in the making on Canadian soil.

Graham waited 6 years for his wish to be a possibility. He could have chosen another, more readily attainable Hockey wish, but none could match this one. It was also his fervent hope that Team Canada would be on the ice for that fateful game, a result that was guaranteed by their 3 - 2 victory on Friday over Slovakia.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada

Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 15,000 children and their families.

This year, the Foundation expects to grant 1,000 new wishes. The Foundation has never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day.
