TORONTO, Feb. 13, 2013 /CNW/ - From February 21 to February 24, more than 250 carefully juried independent contemporary artists and thousands of art patrons will join together at The Artist Project (#TAP13), now in its sixth year. From first-time home buyers and interior designers to emerging/seasoned collectors and gallerists, this four-day fair provides a rare opportunity to explore and directly support Canadian and international artists from various disciplines. In a digital age of high-tech and low-touch, The Artist Project brings back the power of personal connection by providing an interactive and inspired forum for artists and art enthusiasts to meet and engage in a shared passion.

WHAT'S ON AT THE ARTIST PROJECT:
Opening Night Preview and Party:
Thursday, February 21, 6-7 PM for Media and VIP only, 7-10 PM all ticket holders (restricted 19+) - Be among the first to view and purchase original works of art by top independent contemporary artists. Enjoy an electric evening of art, music, and delicious eats! A portion of the ticket proceeds from the Opening Night Preview and Party will be donated to the Canadian Art Foundation. Untapped Emerging Artist Competition - The Artist Project is dedicated to supporting the development of emerging artists through the juried Untapped Emerging Artists competition. It awards artists a FREE space at the exhibition, and is an opportunity for artists to participate in a professional-level art fair and showcase their work to gallerists, collectors and art enthusiasts at no cost!
The Faces Competition - This year TAP challenged artists to create a piece of art based on their interpretation of the theme, Faces. Selected by a panel of judges, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive cash prizes, and visitors can vote for their favourite entry in the People's Choice Award.
SONY Full-frame Studio - SONY is back with another exciting feature, where ten photographers from the show were selected and each given either a top-of-the-line SONY a99 DSLR or RX1 compact "full-frame" Camera to create stunning works of art using SONY's revolutionary full-frame sensor technology. Come and relax amongst these never-before seen images or try your hand at these world-class cameras.
Video Artbox - The Artist Project 2013 will re-launch the Video Artbox, where the work of cutting edge video artists from across the country will be featured.
Installation Zone - Explore large-scale sculpture, conceptual art, and installations from the country's most talented contemporary artists.
Art Chats - This series offers a variety of engaging and inspiring seminars hosted by leading art and design experts. This year's topics range from Manny Neubacher & Anya Shor's "What to Look For When Collecting Art by Emerging Artists" to Stephen Bulger's "Photography: Collecting 101" to Betty Ann Jordan's "Here's Looking at You: Portraits Today". Art Walks - The Artist Project docents offer an informative exploration of the show, along with the opportunity to meet multi-disciplinary artists, learn about their various inspirations and the process involved with creating their works of art. Art Walks are complimentary with admission.
NEW! Uptown/Downtown Hotel Art Tour - Get an exclusive look inside the private art collections of two of Toronto's trendiest hotels, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto and The Hazelton Hotel, and view their wide variety of works including paintings, sculpture, photographs and more.
