"A Time for Celebration and Challenge: The Rotary Club of Toronto's Centennial and Nearing the World Eradication of Polio"
The Rotary Club of Toronto will have the honour of hosting the President of Rotary International, Mr. Sakuji Tanaka from Yashio, Saitama, Japan.
Program Highlight:
The Rotary Club of Toronto will be presenting President Tanaka with a cheque for $100,000 for Rotary International's "End Polio Now" Campaign (www.endpolio.org)
This gift will be matched with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as the Canadian Government, turning this donation into $300,000! Over 500 Rotarians and friends, including civic and political leaders, are expected to attend this special occasion.
Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Friday afternoon, Mr. Tanaka will be touring major Rotary Club of Toronto projects in our city, including Rotary Drive (10 Habitat for Humanity homes), the Philip Aziz Centre for child palliative care, the Sherbourne Health Care Centre Health Buses, and St. Michael's Hospital to see The Rotary Club of Toronto Transition Centre for Homeless and Disadvantaged.
In the evening, Mr. Tanaka will be the guest of honour at a special Youth Reception, highlighting the work of Toronto youth in charitable activities both in our city and around the world. Rotaract, Youth Exchange, Interact, Youth Ambassadorial Scholars and the first Rotary Club of Toronto & Toronto Argonauts Community Scholarship award recipient will have an opportunity to meet with President Tanaka.
Saturday, Mr. Tanaka will help open the all-day Rotarians for Peace Symposium, to be held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
