/CNW Telbec/ - OmniGlobe Networks Inc, today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, RAMTelecom has been awarded a three-year contract by the Government of
Canada
for the provision, maintenance and operation of comprehensive Iridium satellite services and terminal equipment. The contract, which was awarded by Public Works and Government Services
Canada
following a competitive procurement process, has an estimated value of
$2.1 million
with an additional three one-year extension options.
Under the terms of the contract, RAMTelecom will supply the Government of
Canada
with Iridium satellite services including handheld satellite phones and hardware.
The Iridium technology is a perfect fit for land-mobile, maritime and aeronautical applications in support of daily and emergency operations. OmniGlobe's Iridium voice service is ideal for remote expeditions where equipment will be exposed to harsh conditions. Based on the only true worldwide mobile satellite technology, it uses the 66 state-of-the-art low earth orbit (LEO) satellites and provides worldwide network coverage to meet voice and low speed data requirements.
This new contract will make it easier for the federal government to gain access to the mobile satellite technology necessary to meet its growing demand for faster, more reliable mobile communications in rural and remote areas around the world.
