Boosting Regional Economic Development is No. 1 Objective for Local Angel Investment Organization

WATERLOO, ON, July 6 /CNW/ - In an effort to increase the success of
young regional companies, a new group of Angel investors - the Golden Triangle
Angelnet - was recently launched for the Ontario communities of
Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph and Cambridge, also known as the Golden Triangle.
The organization successfully hosted its inaugural event at the law offices of
Miller Thomson LLP on the evening of June 23rd, 2009 in Waterloo, Ontario.
Golden Triangle Angelnet provides a local forum for the presentation of
high-potential investment opportunities to a network of investment angels from
the Golden Triangle region. It brings together education, business
intelligence and financial opportunity within one central, established group
of professionals.
"Ontario is prepared to compete on our talent, our skilled workforce, and
our ability to turn research and new ideas into world-class products and
services. We are proud of the work that partners like Golden Triangle Angelnet
are doing to help young and emerging companies thrive, create new jobs and
strengthen Ontario's economy." -- John Milloy, Minister of Research and
Innovation.
"Today's launch of the Golden Triangle Angelnet signals a call to action
for angel investors in (this) area to commit to increasing the quantity and
quality of angel investing across the region. As part of the Ministry of
Research and Innovation's Angel Network Program (ANP), this initiative will
drive economic growth and prosperity across the Golden Triangle Region for
decades to come." -- Robert L. Douglas, President of Golden Triangle Angelnet.
"In tough economic times, angels have become about the only viable
economic engine for the effective commercialization of innovation.
Individually and in groups Angel investors fund about $2.2 billion in early
stage financing in Canada - more then double what the VCs are doing." -- W.
Daniel Mothersill, President of the National Angel Capital Organization.
