Canada Day presented by Wonder+ at Mel Lastman Square/
TORONTO, June 29 /CNW/ - On July 1st, 2010, Wonder+, in partnership with KidSport(TM) Canada and The City of Toronto, invites kids to experience the joys of active living at a fun, fitness-oriented Canada Day event featuring Canadian Olympic Gold Medalists and the first annual Wonder+ Canada Day Dash. Festivities fit for the whole family will kick off in Toronto's Mel Lastman Square at 5 pm sharp with the Wonder+ Canada Day Dash taking place at 7pm.
Canadian kids need more activity. It's a fact!
According to the 2009 Active Healthy Kids Canada report card, 87% of Canadian children are not as active as they need to be. "We established the Wonder+ Canada Day Dash to help showcase just how simple it is to get kids active," says Darren Mahaffy, VP and Director of Marketing, Weston Bakeries, who hopes to see at least 1,000 kids participate in the event.
All participants will receive a certificate of achievement and get to have their photo taken with Canadian Olympic athletes Kristina Groves, Vicky Sunohara and the Hamelin brothers. "We're always looking for ways to help inspire kids to embrace healthy living," says Mahaffy. "Athletes are great role models, and we're confident that their presence at this event will encourage kids to get moving."
Fitness, fireworks, plus food for a great cause!
In addition to the Canada Day Dash, grownups and kids can rack up fitness minutes at high-energy activity stations, take in live musical performances by Juno Award winners Digging Roots and Toronto's God Made ME Funky and enjoy a spectacular fireworks finale. Hungry event goers can satisfy their appetites in the Wonder+ BBQ zone. BBQ proceeds will benefit KidSport(TM) Canada. A full schedule of events is available at www.facebook.com/wondercares.
