MONTREAL, July 22, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - From July 22 to 26, a major conference on reproduction will take place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Under the theme, Reproductive Health: Nano to Global, the 46th Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR) will bring together over 1,200 delegates from five continents in Montréal. On this occasion, the media are invited to attend lectures and meet with the many experts who will be present.
High interest talks presented on Tuesday July 23rd include:
- Overview of the Genetics of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
Margrit Urbanek, Ph.D. (Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois).
Topic: Polycystic ovarian disease afflicts approximately 7 % of women of reproductive age. It is closely linked with metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes. New studies have found genetic and familial linkages that explain potential causes of the disease.
- The Endometrium as a Sensor of Embryo Quality.
Nicholas Stephen Macklon, M.D. (University of Southampton, Southampton, Great Britain).
Topic: New findings indicate that the uterus recognizes and selects against embryos that cannot survive pregnancy. These are prevented from implanting, and gestation ceases.
- Environmental Endocrine Disruptors of the Ovary, Familiar and Novel:
Xenoestrogens, Dioxins, and Gold Nanoparticles.
Reinhold J. Hutz, Ph.D. (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin).
Topic: Environmental contaminants have effects on the ovary and contribute to human infertility.
- Periconceptual Environment and Offspring Health.
Adam Watkins, Ph.D. (University of Nottingham, Leicestershire, United Kingdom).
Topic: Maternal and paternal nutrition at the time of conception have an effect on the postnatal health of the offspring from this conception.
INTERVIEWS AND ACCREDITATION: The speakers and experts present will make themselves available to discuss their research. Representatives of the media wishing to schedule an interview or obtain accreditation are asked to contact Bruce D. Murphy, Ph.D., Co-Chair of the SSR Local Arrangement Committee ([email protected]).
