MONTREAL, June 1, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Last Post Fund National President, LCol (Ret'd) Evelyn Kelly, cordially invites the public to the LPF Annual Commemorative Ceremony, with guest of honour the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada. The ceremony will take place on Sunday 3 June at the LPF National Field of Honour located at 701 Donegani Avenue in Pointe-Claire, QC. The ceremony will start at 2:30 p.m.
On this occasion, each and every grave will be adorned by small Canadian flags planted by a local group of Scouts. This ceremony aims to pay tribute to Canadian and Allied Veterans—marine, aviation and army—who have so valiantly defended the values of freedom and democracy that are dear to our country.
Since the year of its consecration in September 1930, a total of 20,954 burials have taken place at the National Field of Honour. This unique military site is the only Canadian cemetery entirely devoted to Canadian and Allied Veterans. They originate not only from all provinces but also from 41 countries across the globe.
To get to the National Field of Honour, guests are invited to park their vehicles at the Beaconsfield train station on Elm Avenue, and to use the shuttle bus service that will be in operation starting at 1:00 p.m.
For over 100 years, the Last Post Fund's mission has been to ensure that no Veteran will be deprived of a dignified funeral and burial for lack of financial resources. Since its inception in Montreal in 1909, the LPF has provided financial benefits to nearly 150,000 Veterans in need and their families.
