Carlsberg Brings the World Together with UEFA EURO 2012 Just Around the Corner
Celebrate UEFA EURO 2012's exciting matches with long time sponsor Carlsberg
TORONTO, June 5, 2012 /CNW/ - There is no fever like soccer fever, and what better way to feel the heat than to unite with soccer lovers across Canada over a Carlsberg! After more than two decades as an official sponsor of UEFA European Football Championships, Carlsberg returns to gear fans up for one of the world's largest soccer tournaments. Held for the first time entirely in Eastern Europe, UEFA EURO 2012 will see 31 top-notch matches take place over 24 days, with the final match landing at 2:45 p.m. on Canada Day.
"Canada is home to some of the world's greatest and most dedicated soccer fans but despite their team alliances everyone comes together to cheer on their side in mass celebrations," says Nick Relph, Director of Marketing, Carlsberg Canada. "With UEFA EURO 2012 just around the corner, Carlsberg has fans covered so they don't miss a second of action!"
From June 8th to July 1st, 31 matches will be held in eight different stadiums - four in Ukraine and four in Poland. Between five and eight million visitors are expected during the tournament, where they can visit one of the Carlsberg eight fan parks in the host cities. Fans that can't make it to Europe for the tournament can catch the match in Carlsberg fan parks around the world - including Toronto.

Carlsberg is bringing the world together for the UEFA EURO 2012
As part of its global sponsorship celebrations, Carlsberg has been keeping Canadians up-to-date on the tournament through the Carlsberg Canada Facebook page (facebook.com/CarlsbergCanada). The page is a hub for soccer fans with all the information they need to kick off the UEFA EURO 2012: information on promotional activities, bars where they can celebrate UEFA EURO 2012 fever, download UEFA EURO 2012 match guides and connect with soccer fans across the country to discuss all things footie!
Throughout June, there will also be weekly giveaways on the Carlsberg Canada Facebook page with everything soccer fans need to celebrate the UEFA EURO 2012 - soccer balls, t-shirts, flags, caps, backpacks and lanyards.
Plus, Carlsberg took its commitment one step further by giving three lucky Canadian fans, and their guests, an all expenses paid trip to Poland to catch one of the semi-final matches of the tournament. On May 15th, Carlsberg announced the three winners of this once in a lifetime opportunity - Thomas Hamilton from Markham, ON; Luca Dubois from Longueuil, QC; and Andrew Gillooley from Vancouver, BC! In a perfect example of bringing people together from all over the world to watch the game, Mr. Gillooley is using this amazing trip to bring and catch up with his brother who lives in Poland and he hasn't seen in two years because of the distance - certainly a deserving win.
Since 1988, Carlsberg has been committed to supporting the European Championships and that passion continues stronger than ever. From the 1988 West Germany final when Marco van Basten scored one of the most memorable goals in footballing history against Russia volleying the ball past the goalkeeper, to the first ever European Football Championships to be held in two different countries (the Netherlands and Belgium) Carlsberg was there. Most memorable might be more than 1,500,000 litres of Carlsberg sold in the fan zones during the 2008 games in Austria and Switzerland.
