Media Advisory - Official opening of the national urban park at Downsview Park

TORONTO, June 27, 2012 /CNW/ -

WHAT	Invitation-only event. Be one of the first to witness the culmination of years of transformation of a former military base into a green oasis and urban park in the middle of the Greater Toronto Area.
	On Thursday, June 28, Downsview Park aims to provide the largest area possible open for public access. More than one-half of the site is a national urban park, integrating forests, ponds, trails, active and passive play areas, sports fields and gardens. Unique to the national urban park is the 140,000 square metres of historic aviation and military buildings, to be repurposed to provide year-round activities and programs. The remaining one-half of the land area is dedicated to five new sustainable neighbourhoods, which are integral to the vibrancy and stewardship of the national urban park in perpetuity.
