Media Advisory - First Chance for West Toronto Residents to Discuss Alternative to Metrolinx Noise Walls
Community Group Hires Award-Winning Architects to Improve Pan Am Games Legacy
TORONTO, June 24, 2013 /CNW/ -
Who: | The Junction Triangle Rail Committee, a group of West Toronto residents opposed to the construction of a diesel train link to Pearson International Airport for the 2015 Pan Am Games. |
What: | Sharing Boundaries, a public meeting with Kim Storey and James Brown, Brown & Storey Architects Inc., detailing a secure, green alternative to the Metrolinx plan to construct 16-foot tall concrete sound barriers through dozens of West Toronto neighbourhoods. |
Where: | Perth Avenue Housing Co-Op 120 Perth Avenue (at Bloor) |
When: | Tuesday, June 25, 2013 7 p.m. |
Why: | The massive structures stand more than a full metre higher than the Berlin Wall and will be a visible blight stretching across the city. Billed as the "Green Games", Transportation Minister Glen Murray must direct Metrolinx to use the rail link as an opportunity to create an urban forest as a legacy for residents and a new international gateway to the city for our Pan Am guests and all future visitors. |
