WASHINGTON and TORONTO, June 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will participate in a press call with Canadian and U.S. partners tomorrow (Thursday, June 27) at 3:30 p.m. ET to discuss his upcoming trip to Alberta to visit the tar sands region and meet with local communities. Mr. Kennedy and his son Conor Kennedy will travel to Ft. McMurray and Ft. Chipewyan to learn about the scale and pace of tar sands development.
The call will set the stage for Mr. Kennedy's Alberta trip and discuss the serious implications for human health and the environment of industry's planned expansion of the tar sands.
The tar sands industry has released new plans for a rapid expansion, which will be enabled by tar sands pipelines like Keystone XL. New analysis reveals that the planned tripling of expansion over the next two decades will have wide ranging impacts to water supply, toxic waste generation, air quality, and levels of carbon pollution.
