Greyhound Canada Applauds Agreement With Government of Manitoba

Service Throughout Rural Manitoba To Be Maintained

TORONTO, March 19 /CNW/ - On behalf of Greyhound Canada, Stuart Kendrick, Senior Vice President today issued the following statement concerning a contract with the Government of Manitoba to continue providing inter-city passenger bus service throughout the province:

    
    "Greyhound Canada welcomes today's agreement with the Government of
    Manitoba. It represents the kind of partnership that can be struck
    between the public and private sectors when there is a mutual commitment
    to deliver services to communities of all sizes; urban, rural and remote.
    In particular, we want to thank Premier Selinger, Minister Ashton and all
    those who worked to put this agreement in place.

    This agreement will serve as an interim solution until the end of 2010
    while the Federal Provincial Working Group on Intercity Bus Passenger
    Transportation completes its work in recommending new rules to govern the
    whole of our sector nationwide. Indeed, Greyhound Canada believes this
    approach could serve as a model for use on a more permanent basis and in
    other provinces where similar challenges are faced. Ultimately, however,
    the Working Group will need to identify a new policy framework to update
    rules and regulations governing intercity passenger bus transport that
    have remain largely unchanged for more than forty years.

    Greyhound Canada's commitment to servicing the travelling public is
    evidenced not only by this agreement but also by the eight decades of
    providing comfortable, safe and economical transportation services to
    Canadians. Today's agreement helps to sustain that tradition and paves
    the way for the efforts of the Working Group."
