WHAT: OPSEU Diversity Statement Launch
DATE: Thursday, March 21, 2013
TIME: 11:00 am to 11:30 am
PLACE: OPSEU Head Office, Main Lobby, 100 Lesmill Road, Toronto
Embracing the value that all OPSEU members and staff bring into their communities and workplaces, the union is fighting to ensure the labour movement remains relevant to millions of Ontarians.
"Embracing diversity means linking the personal with the political," said Thomas. "It means fully valuing all diversity including age, gender, ethnicity, race, abilities and sexual identity. Members and staff at OPSEU are positioned at the forefront of Ontario's demographic change, and leading the way."
Ontario is experiencing a significant increase in its aging population, and there is a dramatic growth of diverse groups in urban areas. By 2017, one in every five workers will be from a visible minority background according to a Statistics Canada report.
"We are committed to serving the needs of all of our members, and are working hard to mobilize and engage our full 130,000 strong membership. We are also intent on being the union employer of choice, today and tomorrow," said Thomas.
