VANCOUVER, March 9, 2017 /CNW/ - Whether you're a weekend warrior, cycling enthusiast or an occasional yogi, BC's leading employers go out of their way to make sure employees' health and lifestyle choices are supported in the workplace. Their HR programs and policies reflect a unique West Coast culture, which creates a highly productive and engaged workforce. The best of these initiatives were recognized today as winners of the BC's Top Employers competition for 2017 were announced by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the publishing firm that manages the annual Canada's Top 100 Employers project.
"British Columbia is an attractive destination for work and play," says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project, which organizes the competition. "The province maintains a diverse, robust base of employers, representing a range of industries and offering a variety of interesting career options."
"It's not surprising that health and wellness are focal points for many of this year's winners," adds Kristina Leung, Senior Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. "BC employers are leaders in the field, encouraging employees to take advantage of the province's beautiful surroundings."
Now in its 12th year, BC's Top Employers is an editorial competition that recognizes the British Columbia employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers throughout the province were evaluated by the editors at Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time-Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in BC; employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.
Winning employers from this year's competition will be recognized today by the editorial team at a special luncheon in downtown Vancouver. The winners were also announced in a special magazine published in The Vancouver Sun this morning.
