Shanghai World Expo 2010 - Montrealers are invited to celebrate in Chinatown
MONTREAL, May 13 /CNW Telbec/ - Mrs. Mary Deros, member of the Montréal Executive Committee responsible for cultural communities invites Montrealers to attend the celebrations dedicated to Montréal Day at the Shanghai World Expo. A number of activities will be held at Place Sun Yat Sen in Montréal's Chinatown on Sunday, May 16, starting at 11 a.m.
"The celebrations in Chinatown will give Montrealers an opportunity to enjoy the celebrations marking Montréal Day at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, where a series of events including circus and street arts, music and modern art will entertain visitors. I invite Montrealers to join fellow residents of Chinese origin and take part in this family-oriented celebration, which also reflects our city's rich Chinese culture," said Mary Deros.
This event will also emphasize 25 years of friendship and exchange between Montréal and Shanghai. A giant screen set up in the square will project images of the Shanghai World Expo, highlighting Espace Montréal and featuring the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex, its history and technological advancements.
Also featured will be excerpts from performances by Cirque Éloize, violinist Angèle Dubeau and La Pietà, as well as images from the world expo. A host of cultural activities are also scheduled, including folk dancing in traditional dress, Chinese songs and music instruments, modern dancing, music, Chinese martial arts, thematic stands, children's workshops, as well as painting and calligraphy art exhibitions.
Montréal Day at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 will be held on Sunday, May 16 at Place Sun Yat Sen, at the corner of Clark and De La Gauchetière streets. In case of rain, the celebrations will be held at the Montreal Chinese Cultural Community Center, 2nd floor, 1088, rue Clark.
