The Winners of the 2nd Edition of the Montreal Community Cares Awards Will Be Honoured on June 16th

MONTREAL, May 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - For the second consecutive year, Montreal Community Cares will celebrate individuals and organizations who are actively involved in making Montreal a better place to live. Presented by CN, this event will take place Saturday, June 16^th at the Crowley Arts Centre under the patronage of Mrs. Kathleen Weil, minister of Culture, Communications and Immigration.

Yet again this year, this gala will give you the chance to learn more about the accomplishments of ordinary people who set out to better their communities in extraordinary ways. Normand Braithwaite and Chantal Desjardins will host the awards ceremony.

THE GALA

The second edition of the Montreal Community Cares Awards Gala Night will expand its reach by acknowledging the community involvement of people from all over Greater Montreal. During this special evening, 16 awards from 4 categories will be handed out. The awards categories are the following: Community Organization Award, Community Leader Award, Student/Athlete Award, and Youth Leadership Award (in memory of Paul Frappier).

For the second year, the Gala will highlight two individuals' exemplary commitment by bestowing upon them a "Lifetime Achievement Award." The winners will be announced on June 11^th. 

Over 200 participants are expected as of 7 pm for a cocktail dinner which will be followed by the 2012 Gala's awards ceremony. The event will wrap up with an evening of dancing. Full evening dress is required and tickets are priced at $125.

AN EVENING OF SHARING

Through the Montreal Community Cares Foundation, funds raised by the 2012 Awards event will help the "Montreal Community Cares and Shares Program" and the "Montreal Community Cares Summer Leadership Program". The first program brings together underprivileged children from diverse schools and communities at a festive event during the holiday season where positive role models share their time, stories and love as well as distribute gifts. The second program enables student-athletes from across Montreal to stay on track, athletically and academically, throughout the summer and provides them with opportunities to grow and give back to our community.

ABOUT THE MONTREAL COMMUNITY CARES AWARDS GALA NIGHT

The Montreal Community Cares Awards gala is an occasion to reward those who make a difference here, in Montreal, and the positive impact that they have on their community. The recipients of the Montreal Community Cares awards are true leaders who deserve to be applauded, but who also inspire us all. In 2011, part of the profits from the Montreal Community Cares awards were provided to Services Horticoles, and Les Pousses Urbaines, ecological-horticulture organizations for at-risk youth, and the NDG Black Community Association, which offers various athletic and leadership programs for area youth.
