Media Advisory - Brighter Nights™: Shining a Light on Safety in Toronto Communities
TORONTO, May 29, 2013 /CNW/ - Residents in communities across the city are working with Toronto Hydro-Electric System ("Toronto Hydro"), City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program (CCRP) and local volunteers to brighten the night by installing energy efficient light bulbs. The Brighter Nights program (formerly Light the Night) kicks off this year with an event in the Grace Hartman/Wilcox Creek Coop neighbourhood.
WHO: | Anthony Haines, President and CEO, Toronto Hydro, City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program and local volunteers, including youth and residents.
WHAT: | Toronto Hydro representatives and local volunteers will be canvassing the neighbourhood of Grace Hartman & Wilcox Creek to install approximately 300 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and clean up the community.
WHEN: | Thursday, May 30, 2013
4 p.m. - 6 p.m. | |||
WHERE: | Grace Hartman/Wilcox Creek Coop, Forest Creek Pathway (Old Finch Ave. & Morningside Ave.)
WHY: | The Brighter Nights program responds to safety concerns in vulnerable neighbourhoods and helps make them brighter and safer, by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and encouraging residents to leave them on overnight. A CFL bulb left on between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. costs about a penny a day because they use 75 per cent less electricity* than standard incandescent bulbs.
The Brighter Nights program is a community based response to safety concerns. This community outreach program aligns safety with energy efficiency by focusing on how valuable lighting can be to our communities. |
