Ottawa, June 2-5, 2013
WINNIPEG, May 31, 2013 /CNW/ - Infection control experts from across the country will meet in Ottawa from June 2-5, 2013 at the Ottawa Convention Centre for educational workshops and conference.
The Community and Hospital Infection Control Association (CHICA-Canada) brings together Infection Prevention and Control Professionals, Medical Microbiologists, Epidemiologists, and Infectious Disease specialists from all provinces and territories of Canada, as well as international guests, involved in the prevention of healthcare-acquired infections. It is estimated that over 200 000 patients a year develop infections as a result of their treatment and that as many as 12 000 will die. Healthcare-acquired infections cost the Canadian healthcare system over 1 billion dollars annually.
The theme of the conference centers on change: changing the system, changing the program and changing yourself. Specialized sessions will focus on the importance of antibiotic stewardship to prevent development of "superbugs" and C. difficile, the current state of some vaccine preventable diseases and tuberculosis, as well as surveillance of syndromes that help us identify possible infectious diseases. In addition, we will learn about various initiatives across the country that have improved the delivery of infection prevention and control, and we will have a rare opportunity to hear from an infection survivor. We are fortunate to have Sir Liam Donaldson, a global leader in patient safety from the United Kingdom join us for the keynote address on Tuesday June 4. There is much to learn at this conference and Infection Prevention and Control Professionals from coast to coast and around the world will be on site to share experiences and information during this event.
The 2013 registration brochure outlines the lectures and their objectives (www.chica.org).
CHICA-Canada is the national, professional organization for those interested in the prevention and control of infections in all healthcare settings.
