Politics re-Invented: Online Party's first Press Conference
TORONTO, Nov. 10 /CNW/ - The members of the press are invited to join us this Saturday, November 13th, at Room 222 - Drake Hotel in Toronto, around brunch time (11:00 AM) to discuss the arrival of online voting, what it means to the immediate future of Canadian politics. Important announcements will be made - don't miss a historical moment in Canadian politics!
Would online voting make our system more democratic? Reading the comments in the press over the last month about the newly created Online Party of Canada (OPC) shows that the general opinion is cautiously optimistic; most commentators think this is a good idea, the next logical step, while others see the pitfalls of Democracy 2.0. The common aspect is that everyone has something to say! OPC has managed to put together a credible alternative to the old-fashioned politics by combining the simple idea of providing Canadians an online tool for political debate and voting, with a state-of-the-art, secure website (www.onlineparty.ca)
In a few years, the young generation may be amazed when we will tell them about how we used to go on a fixed date, every few years, to a nearby school, picking a name of a lawn sign based on the sign's colour, circling that name with a pencil on a piece of paper and dropping that in a cardboard box. Indeed, in the internet era, when we're so used to manage our bank accounts on our mobile phones, to file our tax returns through a website.. it's hard to believe how little has changed in the political system in the last century. Did you know that all political organizations still have to collect membership forms containing names, addresses and dates of birth, as required by our Government in order to register or re-confirm every 3 years?
For one-on-one interviews with OPC Founder Mr. Michael Nicula, you can book 20-30 min sessions between 9-11 AM and 1-6 PM. The conference starts at 11; continental breakfast, coffee and juices will be served, delicious Drake brunch also available.
