MEDIA ADVISORY - Lionhead Engineering Presents the Final Chapter of the
Dingman #2 Well
TURNER VALLEY, AB, Nov. 15 /CNW/ - Lionhead Engineering is hosting a media event on Thursday, November 18 at the historic Dingman #2 well located in the town of Turner Valley to celebrate the final chapter of the successful abandonment of this piece of oil and gas history. The well was originally drilled in 1914.
"After successfully abandoning the well in 2009 and monitoring for any leaks over the past year, we are ready to complete the final stage of this historic project, namely cutting and capping the well," said Kary Cuthill. "We would like to provide members of the local media and key stakeholders an opportunity to experience this final piece of the puzzle and celebrate with us."
Lionhead Engineering was contracted by Alberta Culture and Community Spirit to abandon the Dingman #2 well. Lionhead has successfully eliminated flow from the well, protected groundwater by isolating the water source from gas zones and cemented a protective casing into the well across groundwater aquifers. After one year of monitoring the site, Lionhead will now cut and cap the well before reclaiming the site.
The agenda for the media event is as follows:
Date: Thursday, November 18
3:00 - 3:15pm | Orientation and safety |
3:15 - 3:20pm | Speeches from Lionhead Engineering |
3:20 - 3:30 pm | Photo Opportunity - swinging the well head off as part of the "cutting and capping" |

4:00 - 8:00 pm | The Turner Valley Oil and Gas Group is hosting an open house to provide information about oil and gas activities in the Turner Valley area. Lionhead will have a display at the open house. |
Personal Protective Equipment is required for this event (steel-toed boots, coveralls, hard hat and eye protection). If you do not have equipment it can be provided to you, but supplies are limited.
