General Motors Company to Open Trading on Toronto Stock Exchange Today

TORONTO, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - Kevin Williams, President and Managing Director, General Motors of Canada Ltd., Carol Stephenson, Dean, Ivey School of Business and Member of the General Motors Company Board of Directors, and Ken Lewenza, President of the Canadian Auto Workers, will join Tom Kloet, CEO, TMX Group to open trading on Toronto Stock Exchange this morning. 

The market opening ceremony is in celebration of General Motors' planned initial public offering on Toronto Stock Exchange. General Motors is expected to begin trading today under the symbolTSX:GMM.U.

Toronto Stock Exchange has welcomed 137 new companies during the first ten months of 2010, representing a 96% increase over the same period in 2009. 

For Market Openings: Media may pick up a feed from the TOC (television operations centre) for all market open ceremonies. The feed is named TSX Transmit 2 and is produced at the TMX Broadcast Centre and sent live to the TOC. Those featured in the market opening move into position for the market open ceremony at approximately 9:27 a.m. and the markets will open with the sound of a siren (the traditional market open on Toronto Stock Exchange) at 9:30 a.m.
