Media Advisory - Reignite the Nostalgia - Make October Count for Kids
UNICEF's orange box goes virtual
TORONTO, Oct 1 /CNW/ - UNICEF's orange donation box is a symbol many Canadians remember as part of their Halloween trick-or-treat ritual. The orange donation box is no longer in existence, but the need for fundraising is greater than ever. UNICEF Canada proudly launches, 'Make October Count for Kids' - an opportunity for schools , organizations, communities and families to support children in dire need by simply going online at www.unicef.ca. By taking the program virtual, all Canadians can participate and reignite the nostalgia associated with the orange box.
As we prepare to give thanks, October is an opportune time to educate and engage Canadians into the issues affecting children around the world. Over 22,000 children under the age of five - about one every three seconds - die every day, mainly from preventable causes. Infants in developing countries are nearly 10 times more likely to die than newborns in industrialized countries. The month culminates with National UNICEF Day on Sunday, October 31st. An occasion to celebrate Canada's contributions made to children around the world.
Media are encouraged to learn more about UNICEF and speak to survivors and experts to gain insight and understanding into children's survival issues:
