Toronto Public Library hosts public Centennial celebration October 2   

TORONTO, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - Toronto Public Library's Riverdale Branch, Toronto's third oldest operating public library, will celebrate its 100-year anniversary with a free all-day party on Saturday, October 2, 2010. The event is open to the public and the festivities will include live music, a Chinese Lion Dance, a magician and jugglers, a historical walking tour and more. Library officials and community partners will officially toast the wonderful Carnegie, Georgian revival building at 12 noon.

	Key times include:
	10:30 am: Library to Library in Riverdale: a community walking tour cosponsored by Heritage Toronto, Riverdale Historical Society and Toronto Public Library. Start: Mustard Seed, 791 Queen Street East, 3 blocks east of Broadview Avenue.  Finish: Riverdale Branch, 370 Broadview Avenue
	11:00 am: Meet Toronto Public Library's mascot, Dewey! Children's dress up and face painting with Riverdale Branch staff.
	12:00 pm: Official centennial ceremony with City Librarian Jane Pyper
	12:30 pm: A giant Happy Birthday cake for all!
	1:00 pm: An outdoor juggler on stilts from Centre of Gravity.
	2:00 pm: Family entertainment with local storyteller Sally Jaeger, a strolling magician and a Chinese Lion Dance by Northern Legs Southern Fists.  Meet a local police officer on horseback and have your picture taken on a Toronto Fire Services fire truck.
