Miss World Canada and Edmonton rock band help launch African Village exhibit in the city where it began

Humanitarian agency World Vision unveils results of new nation-wide poll on HIV and AIDS

EDMONTON, Oct. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - On October 16, Miss World Canada, Tara Teng, and all-girl rock band Holle will open doors to World Vision's interactive AIDS exhibit One Life Experience at the West Edmonton Mall.

It has travelled across North America including stops in Seattle, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Sacramento and New York City's Grand Central Station but five years ago, Edmonton was the first city to begin its cross-Canada tour.

In 186-square metres (2,000 square-feet) four compelling stories of youth affected by AIDS will come to life.  Visitors will move beyond the grim statistics to gain an understanding of why the pandemic is the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time.

World Vision will also share results of a nation-wide poll revealing current Canadian attitudes and awareness toward the disease.

The harsh reality is that there is a reported 34 million people, including 3.4 million children, living with HIV worldwide. Teng and other key supporters will call on Canadians to get involved in the global response to the disease by sponsoring a child who can get access to HIV and AIDS-specific interventions and prevention education.

After the official open of the exhibit, Teng, key supporters and spokespeople will be available for interviews.

The exhibit is open in West Edmonton Mall from October 16 - January 15.  It has attracted more than 40,000 Canadians as a national tour and is free to the public. Exhibit hours coincide with regular mall hours. Parental discretion is advised.
