Frustrated Legal Aid Lawyers Protest Discrimination At Board Meeting
TORONTO, Oct. 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Legal Aid lawyers will rally outside Legal Aid Ontario's board of directors meeting tomorrow to draw attention to unfair and discriminatory treatment by their employer.
The group of lawyers will be joined by members of the labour movement and community organizations.
Lawyers employed by Legal Aid have been trying without success to meet with Legal Aid Ontario CEO Bob Ward for six months to discuss securing bargaining rights. Legal Aid lawyers are the most racially diverse group of public sector lawyers in the province. More than two-thirds are women. All other provincial government lawyers, primarily male, have the right to collective bargaining.
