Media Advisory - Ontario Ranger supporters to present petition results at Queen's Park news conference Oct. 22 Français
TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Friends of the Ontario Rangers Program (FORP) will present the results of a province-wide petition campaign to restore the former 68-year old environmental and land stewardship program at a Queen's Park news conference Oct. 22.
Presenting the results will be Jack Ballinger, a Durham Region councillor and key supporters of the group. He will be joined by New Democrat MPPs John Vanthof (Timiskaming-Cochrane) and Michael Mantha (Algoma-Manitoulin).
FORP organized itself as a grassroots movement to restore the ranger program (formerly known as the Ontario Junior Rangers Program) one year ago after the former McGuinty government abruptly cancelled the popular $1.6 million program which promoted environmental stewardship, maintenance of provincial parks, life skills and team-building. More than 70,000, 17-year olds participated in the program over seven decades.
