Ontario's Transit Investment Strategy Advisory Panel to consult with public in four town hall meetings across the Toronto Region

TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2013 /CNW/ - The Transit Investment Strategy Advisory Panel announced today the dates and locations of four public consultation meetings across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

Vaughan - November 4, 2013

Toronto - November 6, 2013

Mississauga - November 13, 2013
Time: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Locations: Living Arts Centre, BMO Hall, 4141 Living Arts Drive, Mississauga, ON L5B 4B8

Pickering - November 14, 2013
Time: from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Location: Recreational Complex of Pickering, West Salon, 1867 Valley Farm Road, Pickering, ON L1V 6K7

In preparation for these upcoming consultations, the Panel is releasing the second of three discussion papers, The Transit We Need, which is available for download at www.TransitPanel.ca. It discusses seven criteria for prioritization of upcoming transit investments and projects. The third paper, Paying for Transit: Considering the Options, will be released in early November, 2013. Throughout November 2013, the Panel will be meeting with key stakeholders and providing opportunities for public and business input through town halls, online and social media (#TransitPanel).

"In order to move forward with a sustainable transit investment strategy, we need to discuss the choices we have, and determine priorities," said Anne Golden, Chair of the Panel. "It is time to build a new regional network that unites city and suburb, connects people to existing and future employment areas, releases the main bottlenecks of congestion, and offers improved access and choice."

Ontario's Transit Investment Strategy Advisory Panel was established by Premier Kathleen Wynne on September 18, 2013 with a mandate to advise the Province on how to respond to the Metrolinx Investment Strategy and to engage with the public to determine whether the Metrolinx recommendations are the right ones. The Panel comprises 13 citizens with diverse backgrounds who bring relevant expertise and experience from across the region.
