Honourable Peter MacKay to Attend Ceremony Aboard HMCS Fredericton
TORONTO, Sept. 3 /CNW/ - Eight children of Canadian military personnel who perished while serving their country will receive post-secondary education scholarships from Canada Company at the third annual awards ceremony commencing at 11:00 a.m. aboard HMCS Fredericton in Toronto on Friday, September 3, 2010.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence; Blake Goldring, Chairman of Canada Company and Chairman and CEO, AGF Management Limited; and Rear Admiral Andrew Smith, Canadian Forces Chief of Military Personnel, will present seven of the children with scholarships (one in absentia) at the third annual Canada Company Scholarship Fund Awards.
Created in 2006, Canada Company brings business leaders together from across Canada to support Canadian soldiers and their families. The Canada Company Scholarship Fund (CCSF) was created in 2007 to supplement benefits available to children who have had a parent perish while on duty. Awarded annually, the scholarships provide $4,000 per year for up to four years for children who qualify. These scholarships help to offset tuition fees and other living expenses required to complete a post-secondary education.
