NAV CANADA employee campaign hits $749,000 in support of Ottawa Hospital
OTTAWA, Sept. 9 /CNW/ - NAV CANADA is pleased to announce a donation of $300,000 to The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. The funds were raised through Ottawa and Cornwall based employee donations, special events and a corporate match. Added to contributions of $205,000 and $244,000 in 2008 and 2009, the Company and its employees have donated almost three quarters of a million dollars in three years.
"It is remarkable that year after year, our employees' generosity and commitment to this campaign continues to grow," said John Crichton, President and CEO of NAV CANADA. "Our total contributions of $749,000 have now far exceeded the $500,000 commitment we made at the start of the 2008 campaign."
NAV CANADA was recently awarded the Philanthropic Group Award by The Ottawa Hospital, the only Company to have been awarded this distinction.
"We are amazed and humbled by the outstanding generosity NAV CANADA has demonstrated to The Ottawa Hospital," said Susan Doyle, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. "We are so grateful for their leadership in improving cancer care for thousands of people in our community and beyond."
Rudy Kellar, Vice President, Operations and the 2010 Campaign Chair expressed his appreciation to all the employee donors and the Company's suppliers who supported the campaign. "I also want to thank my team of captains, canvassers, and everyone who took part in this initiative. Their enthusiasm and dedication made this campaign a true success," added Kellar.
Crichton and Kellar presented a cheque to Jessica Pancoe, Development Officer, Ottawa Hospital Foundation at the Company's annual Family Picnic.
Past campaigns supported the expansion of The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre at the General Campus. With the expansion completed, the Campaign team shifted its fundraising focus to cancer research. In particular, the research being done by Dr. John Bell, Senior Scientist, Cancer Therapeutics, and his team at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
