New streamlined approach to legacy system modernization effort
VANCOUVER, Sept. 13 /CNW/ - Make Technologies Inc., a leading provider of Transformational Legacy Modernization (TLM(R)) software and services, today announced that the State of Minnesota's Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) has successfully completed its Transportation Information System (TIS) Mainframe Recovery Project using Make Technologies' CORE(TM) Solution.
Mn/DOT's Transportation Information System (TIS) platform is a mission-critical legacy system that plays a central role in the maintenance and reporting of roadway-related information to external departments such as pavement maintenance and collisions, as well as compliance reporting to federal agencies.
The challenge that Mn/DOT faced was an aging 40-year-old mainframe application with limited in-house support and expertise. Mn/DOT needed a full and clear understanding of its TIS platform functionality in order to make informed decisions to create a robust and flexible system for easier enhancements and continued maintenance.
Bill Bergen, President and CEO of Make Technologies, commented, "In just 8 weeks using Make Technologies' CORE Solution, Mn/DOT stakeholders were able to understand what system components and code of TIS are still in use and business-relevant, and which components are obsolete. They can now establish a blueprint on how to approach their legacy modernization initiative, leverage existing IT assets to streamline and simplify business processes; eliminate technical complexity; and minimize the risks & costs of TIS maintenance and operations. Mn/DOT can now focus the scope of their modernization efforts to meet their business priorities, without incurring unnecessary risks, costs and delays in this strategic initiative."
"We are deeply aware of the challenges government agencies face when trying to find solutions to address aging IT systems: understanding the complexities while reducing the risks and costs of retirement and replacement," continued Bergen. "We are pleased to provide the guidance and tools so that Mn/DOT can confidently develop a modernization strategy that can scale and has the flexibility to comply with new regulations for federal transportation reporting and funding while keeping IT costs at a minimum."
"We are very pleased with the results in such a short time frame," said Kathy Hofstedt, Director/CIO, Office of Information & Technology Services. "Make Technologies' CORE Solution helped us understand our current environment thoroughly, providing unexpected insights to both business and technical stakeholders. The result is that we can better align our modernization strategy with our business processes and use cases. We are confident that a system re-architecture is not only a real possibility, but also a project where we can manage scope and budget effectively."
