SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON TO HIGHLIGHT WINNERS OF THE MEN'S AND
WOMEN'S MARATHON AT POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE
TORONTO, Sept. 26 /CNW/ - The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) will host the annual STWM post race press conference featuring the top three Marathon and Canadian finishers. This year's roster includes returning champion, Kenneth Mungara of Kenya, who faces strong competition in his quest for a third championship, and Canada's own Eric Gillis and Reid Coolsaet.
The 2010 STWM features some of the world's top marathon runners, including, STWM two-time champion Mungara, who at the 2009 STWM set a course record of 2:08:32, fastest time ever ran on Canadian soil. Also featured this year are clubmates Eric Gillis and Reid Coolsaet competing together to push Canada to the front of the pack and make just-announced London 2012 Olympic marathon qualifying standards. In the women's race, Tirfi Beyene Tsegaye and Firehiwot Dado of Ethiopia, plus Alevtina Ivanova of Russia and Ayumi Nakayama of Japan, will battle in the hopes of setting a record for the Fastest-ever Women's marathon on Canadian soil (2:26:01).
More than 20,000 runners from 40 countries will take part in Canada's fastest, flattest marathon course this Sunday, aiming to raise in excess of $2.5 million for the Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge, which has grown to benefit a record-setting 115 charities across the GTA.
