CORUS ENTERTAINMENT PARTNERS WITH SUPERNOVA INTERACTIVE TO LAUNCH MUSIC-BASED
SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS
Corus Radio websites to promote independent music on the radio
TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Corus Entertainment is teaming up with Supernova Interactive to launch the first-ever integrated social network with a mandate to recommend new independent music for play on Corus Radio's new music stations.
Led by Corus Interactive and Integrated Solutions (CIIS), Corus Radio's interactive arm, this pairing of social media and radio brings music-based social media platforms to the next level of music recommendation and discovery. By engaging with band profiles and music online, listeners can directly influence which independent artists are potentially featured on radio.
As Corus rolls out the social media platforms across its new music stations, each participating station/city will develop its own music community portal which will provide music fans a place to listen, share and support their local music scene. It will also serve emerging artists by offering them opportunities to expose their music to a larger audience through Corus Radio websites and its airwaves. The initiative has already launched on Winnipeg's Power 97 and Vancouver's 99.3 The FOX and will expand throughout Canada on Corus Radio stations in the upcoming months.
"We're very pleased to be working with Supernova on the integration of a music-based social media platform with our websites," said David Huszar, Vice President and General Manager, CIIS, Corus Entertainment. "This will serve local communities by providing new music fans a place to listen, share and support their local music scene and emerging artists by offering them opportunities to expose their music to a larger audience through our websites and airwaves."
"By having an online platform through which local bands can promote themselves, music programmers can carefully hand pick the best crowd-sourced music to play on air; then radio again becomes the lynchpin in emerging artist development," said Elliott Hurst, CEO, Supernova Interactive.
Working with Supernova has led to the development and implementation of BC's Home for Independent Music platform (cfox.supernova.com) in Vancouver as well as Manitoba's Home for Independent Music platform (power97.supernova.com) in Winnipeg. Both portals are dedicated to supporting young musicians in the indie community. These powerful social media platforms, yielding up to 1 million page views/month, will allow users the opportunity to recommend independent music to Corus' audience on-air and online.
