Local artists paint One Child for 1000 children

City Councillor Brian Mayes to kick off campaign

WINNIPEG, MB, Sept. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Seven Winnipeg artists will come together on October 1 to create a large eye-catching canvas that will make lasting change for 1000 children around the world. At Cityplace Mall, the artists will simultaneously paint a picture of 4-year-old Ercilla, a child from Mozambique who is the face of World Vision's new campaign.

The event kicks off the "Just 1 Child" campaign which runs from October 1-December 31.  The campaign, which is being kicked off by Councillor Brian Mayes, brings awareness to Winnipeg residents that sponsoring just one child is all it takes to make lasting change in the life of a child. Through this campaign World Vision hopes to find sponsors for 1,000 children.

These talented artists have volunteered their time to be a part of this event. One artist is also a member of the Winnipeg Police Service and has traveled overseas on a 'Destination Life Change' program; a trip designed by World Vision to help people understand the challenges of poverty and equip them with tools and skills to speak out for change and to mobilize other Canadians.

There are almost 22,000 children around the world who are currently sponsored by more than 18,000 Winnipeg residents.
