TORONTO, Sept. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - More than 30 former Ontario Rangers will host a Lobby Day at Queen's Park on Sept. 24 in a bid to have the popular youth and environmental program restored in the 2014 provincial budget.
One year ago the former McGuinty government cancelled the $1.5 million program citing costs. As a result of that decision, several dozen former rangers organized themselves as Friends of the Ranger Program and have conducted a high-profile campaign to have the program restored to the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The purpose of the Sept. 24 Queen's Park Lobby Day is to meet face-to-face with MPPs and to engage them in a conversation in support of bringing back the program. More than 70,000 Ontario young people participated in the ranger program (formerly known as the Ontario Junior Ranger Program) over its 68-year history.
Former ranger and current federal MP Olivia Chow (Trinity-Spadina) is expected to attend the event to lend her support to the campaign. Lunch will be provided.
