New Social Innovation Partnership Provides Work Experience to Persons with Disabilities
VANCOUVER, Sept. 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Vancouver Resource Society's (VRS) Mountainview Resource Centre, located in East Vancouver will celebrate its Grand Opening on Tuesday. VRS is a not-for-profit and charitable organization that provides accessible housing and programs that help persons with disabilities maximize their independence in the community.
Mountainview Resource Centre offers skills development, community inclusion and recreational opportunities. Funding for clients participating in this program is provided by Community Living British Columbia. VRS has operated a similar program at full capacity in Kitsilano, serving 45 clients for over 10 years.
This event celebrates VRS' Social Innovation Partnership with local businesses who support and offer work experience to clients of VRS' Mountainview Resource Centre. Richard Bender, Franchise Partner 1-800-GOT-JUNK? (Vancouver Metro) said "I am so inspired by VRS's story. Started by people who refused to accept the status quo and grown by leadership focused on serving their clients, VRS has a 40 year track record of success. As a local business owner, I am thrilled to be a partner of VRS' Social Innovation program and support persons with disabilities to gain work experience and independence in the community."
This event will also mark the launch of CLBC Month in British Columbia. A number of dignitaries, including the Honourable Don McRae Minister of Community Living British Columbia will be in attendance as well as the Honourable Suzanne Anton, QC, MLA Vancouver Fraserview, Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
