TORONTO, June 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Rudin Dakli of Scarborough was looking forward to a low key celebration with his family to mark his 40th birthday today. But he never imagined this milestone would include a $25 million gift courtesy of LOTTO 6/49.
Rudin matched all the numbers to win the $25,492,251.60 jackpot from the Saturday June, 2, 2012 LOTTO 6/49 draw.
Rudin was in shock as he collected his winnings from the OLG Prize Centre today. In fact, the shock set in when he discovered he had won after checking his lotto numbers on our website, www.olg.ca, over a week ago.
"I buy lottery tickets on occasion, so I don't check them right away," said the married father of two. "It was a week after the draw that I was checking the tickets online and couldn't believe it, when all the numbers matched. I told my wife and she couldn't believe it either. She was beyond excited."
Rudin explained why he waited a week to come and collect his multi-million dollar cheque. "It was tough to hold this secret but I wanted to do some research before this life changing event."
The X-ray technician has no immediate plans for his incredible windfall. He wants to consult with a financial advisor before making any major purchases, but a new house and travelling are now on the top of the his "to do" list.
"I want to visit places I have only read about and now I will make my dreams and that of my family come true. This is truly unbelievable."
Rudin purchased his ticket at the Eglinton Square Lottery Kiosk at 1 Eglinton Square in Scarborough.
Like Rudin, LOTTO 6/49 is celebrating its own milestone birthday. Its 30 years old.
