QUÉBEC CITY, April 5, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Centre de recherche industrielle du Québec (CRIQ) and Mohawk College have signed a collaboration agreement to, among other things, establish a Québec-Ontario community of experts specializing in additive manufacturing—commonly known as 3D printing—and introduce a continuing professional development program for workers in companies that plan to incorporate 3D printing into their manufacturing processes.
A deep well of applied research knowledge to benefit companies
This collaboration will foster the sharing of information and lead to the creation of an R&D program to develop solutions that would spur the adoption of this revolutionary technology by Québec and Ontario manufacturing companies. Under this same agreement, collaborative projects involving CRIQ and Mohawk College experts will give rise to an exchange program that will benefit students and trainees.
Continuous professional training for workers
Mohawk College has developed several courses in additive manufacturing which include a 14-hour training course for a national training program for the industry. Thanks to CRIQ's participation, this industry training course will now be available to francophone clients in Québec. In addition, in the coming years the two institutions will jointly organize periodic seminars and symposia.
"This collaboration is in keeping with our mandate to support companies wishing to enhance their productivity. We strongly believe that additive manufacturing is one of the cutting-edge tools that will open the door to the development of innovative new products," remarked Denis Hardy, President and CEO of Centre de recherche industrielle du Québec.
"Creating solutions for industry partners is a strategic priority for Mohawk. Our Additive Manufacturing Research Centre is the first of its kind in Ontario and it's where a team of students, faculty and staff work on additive manufacturing projects with dozens of companies. We look forward to working with Centre de recherche industrielle du Quebec on collaborative projects where we can share our expertise, help bring innovative new products to market and transform our students into future ready graduates" said Dr. Christine Bradaric-Baus, Vice President Academic for Mohawk College".
