Long-time Union Leader, Alex Dagg, named Canadian Policy Lead
TORONTO, July 25, 2016 /CNW/ - Airbnb, the world's leading community driven hospitality company, today announced the hiring of Alex Dagg, a long-time labour leader, to lead the company's Canadian Public Policy work. In her role, Dagg will focus on strengthening the company's relationships with government officials, small business owners, civic leaders and Airbnb's more than 50,000 hosts, who live in every corner of Canada.
"I have dedicated my entire career to creating and protecting opportunity for everyday people," said Alex Dagg, Airbnb's new Director of Canadian Public Policy. "And I look forward to continuing this work at Airbnb, partnering with governments across Canada to ensure middle class people can share their homes in order to make ends meet and pay the bills, while contributing to their communities and supporting local businesses."
Prior to joining Airbnb's growing policy team, Dagg spent more than four years as the Director of Operations at the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA), where she helped lead the organization victoriously through the 2012 NHL players lockout. Prior to the NHLPA, Dagg spent more than twenty years in organized labour, most recently as International Vice President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and as an Executive Vice President at UNITE HERE. At UNITE HERE, Dagg led the union's Canadian political, legislative and organizing work on behalf of more than 25,000 workers. She was the first woman from UNITE to be elected as an Executive Vice President of the International Union in 2004.
"As cities across Canada - from Vancouver to Montreal, Toronto to Halifax, and communities in between - consider the best approaches to regulating home sharing -- a step we welcome -- we are lucky to have Alex Dagg advocating for the right of everyday people to share their homes across Canada in order to help make some extra income to help make ends meet," said Chris Lehane, Airbnb's Global Head of Public Policy and Public Affairs. "From the shop floor to the ice, Alex has spent her entire career championing economic justice and will be captaining our growing Canadian policy team."
