HALIFAX, Feb. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - allNovaScotia.com, Atlantic Canada's premier source for daily news on business and politics, is expanding with a new publication in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The launch of allNewfoundlandLabrador.com marks the company's first publication outside its home province of Nova Scotia, where it has established itself as the paper of record over the past 15 years.
"We think there's a real appetite for our brand of news coverage in Newfoundland and beyond," said David Bentley, a print media veteran who launched allNovaScotia.com in 2001 with his daughter, Caroline Wood.
The company in late 2015 opened a St. John's bureau, which has been filing a steady stream of business and political stories on the province.
"We're investing in local news coverage," said Bentley. "It's been a tough year for daily newspapers, but we think the future is bright for insightful local news."
allNewfoundlandLabrador.com is fast becoming an essential source of news and information for the energy sector, the fishing industry, entrepreneurs, lenders, lawyers, accountants and more.
"Despite the downturn in the offshore industry, St. John's has a vibrant business community," said managing editor Judy Myrden.
Publisher Caroline Wood said subscriptions have seen an uptick since the bureau's launch in the fall.
"We are asking business people to invest in an allNewfoundlandLabrador.com subscription so they can use the specialized information to help make informed decisions," she said.
Like its sister publication, allNewfoundlandLabrador.com will publish five days a week, from Monday to Friday.
A subscription provides access to both allNovaScotia.com and allNewfoundlandLabrador.com. The introductory rate is $15 a month. When the price increases to the regular rate of $30 a month subscribers can add up to two more new readers at no extra cost.
